Designing the handicap: why your best horse should hide
Public marks, private ability, and the gap between them. This is a template article — replace the copy below with real dev-diary content.

Every horse in The Gallops carries two numbers. One is public: the official rating the handicapper assigns from what they've seen on the racecourse. The other is private: what the horse is actually capable of, which only training, instinct and your stopwatch can reveal.
The interesting decisions live in the gap between the two. A horse rated well below its ability is an opportunity — if you can find the right race before the handicapper catches up. A horse rated above its ability is a problem wearing a rosette.
"The form book records what happened. It has opinions about why. It is not always right."
What the handicapper sees
This is placeholder body copy demonstrating the article template: paragraph rhythm, headings, pull quotes, figures with captions, patch-note blocks and embedded video. Swap it for the real diary text and the layout will hold.

What you know instead
More placeholder copy. Keep paragraphs short, keep the vocabulary honest — marks, trips, going, declarations — and let the systems speak plainly.
Build 0.9.4 — in brief
- Official ratings now respond to the manner of victory, not just the margin.
- In-running comments record pace bias for later form study.
- Assistant reports flag horses "ahead of their mark" after impressive work.

Article templates support everything a proper dev diary needs. The next one can be about anything — the breeding shed, the fixture list, or the horse that refuses to work on a Tuesday.
