A management simulation of British racing
TheGallops
Build a stable. Shape a bloodline. Create a legacy.
A deep horse racing management simulation where every entry, every owner and every generation shapes the future of your yard.
06:12 — First lot on the gallops
I The game
British racing. Your decisions.
The depth of a serious sports management game, pointed at the oldest sport in Britain.
Start with a small yard and build a racing operation capable of competing on the biggest stage. Train individual horses, manage demanding owners, outthink rival yards and develop bloodlines that can shape the sport for generations.
No arcade racing. No betting. A full fixture list, honest form, real consequences — and seasons that add up to something.
II The work of the yard
Six responsibilities. One reputation.
I
Build your stable
Every yard starts somewhere. Yours starts small: a handful of boxes, a modest string, an all-weather strip that floods in February. Reinvest prize money into gallops, barns, staff and stabling — and hire a head lad who notices heat in a leg before it becomes a season lost.
Stabling24 boxes → 36 planned
GallopsTurf 7f · All-weather 5f
Staff9 · wage bill £4,120/wk
II
Develop every horse
No two horses train alike. One needs a strong pace to settle; another resents fast ground and tells you so. Read each animal's ability, temperament and preferred trip, bring fitness forward for a target — and know when a quiet summer at grass is the kindest, smartest call.
Prefers · 7f–1m · Good to Soft
III
Plan the campaign
The calendar is the chessboard. Place a promising maiden where the opposition is thin. Protect a mark. Aim at a spring trial, or wait for autumn ground. Entries close, declarations follow, and every choice ripples into the next one — across a full season in Britain, with raids to Ireland and France.

IV
Manage owners
Owners pay the bills and set the tone. A patient breeder will forgive a quiet spring; a syndicate wants runners, results and a good day out. Balance ambition against loyalty, place their horses honestly, and build the reputation that brings the next good yearling to your yard rather than the one down the road.
Every owner arrives with silks, expectations and a temper of their own
V
Breed a dynasty
Racing careers are short. Bloodlines are not. Retire a good mare to the paddocks, choose her covering with care, and wait. A homebred foal carries everything you know about its family — and something entirely its own. The best decisions you make may not pay off for a decade.

VI
Conquer the racing world
Rival trainers are not scenery. They buy well, place cleverly and develop signatures of their own — one lethal with sprinters, another patient with staying types. Beyond them: international raiders, historic institutions and a championship table that remembers everything.

Assistant's note — "Working like a dream on the grass gallop. I'd want cut in the ground before we go up in trip."
Every horse is a study. Ability, temperament, preferred trip and ground, the full record — and a training plan that has to respect all of it.

The covering that shapes the next decade. Pair mare and stallion, weigh the fee against the family, and wait for February.
Gallowgate retired to stud after a third Group 1 — introductory fee set at £22,000.
Course record falls at Silverdown — Pale Meridian stops the clock at 1:36.20 for the mile.
French raid succeeds again at Marlcombe — overseas yards have now taken 3 of the season's 5 big autumn prizes.
Champion mare December Rose foals a colt by Harbour Light at her owner's stud.
R. Okonkwo signs the season's leading apprentice on a three-season retainer.
The sport moves without you. Retirements, records, big-race winners and rival business — a racing world that keeps its own diary.

Eleanor Fairhurst
Silverdown Lodge
Thirty years at the top and no sign of sentiment. Patient with staying types, ruthless in the autumn, and never runs one before it's ready.
Rotimi Okonkwo
Marlcombe Down
Buys sharp, precocious yearlings and gets them out early. If a two-year-old race looks winnable in April, one of his usually wins it.
Camille Delacroix
Vallon-les-Bois, France
Raids from France for the biggest prizes only. Travels light, strikes late in a race, and takes the trophy home more often than is comfortable.
Fastest 5f 56.31 — Gallowgate, Silverdown
Most wins in a season 81 — E. Fairhurst
Longest winning run 9 — Sovereign's Reply
Record yearling 420,000 gns — colt by December Elm
V Bloodlines
Champions fade. Bloodlines endure.
Build families across generations. A homebred foal can carry the qualities of its parents, develop an identity of its own, and one day establish a legacy that outlives the horses that created it.

VI Race day
Preparation creates the opportunity. The race decides the story.
The pace
A strong early gallop suits the hold-up horses. Commit too soon and the closers will swallow you inside the final furlong.
The ground
Overnight rain turned it Good to Soft. One of these four is unbeaten on it. Two would rather be anywhere else.
The decision
Your instruction was patience. Whether it was the right one is about to become public.
